NFPN Holiday Drive Hauls over 500 pounds of Donations

Contributions include can openers, canned goods, spices, bath tissue, diapers, and more

Thanks to support from our partners and local community members, the Northwest Food Partners Network’s 2019 Holiday Food and Item Drive was a resounding success!

With our 2019 Holiday Drive, we aimed to collect non-perishable food and household items for distribution to the communities our member organizations serve. Our network developed a Holiday Drive “wish list” that prioritized donations of can openers (key to opening commonly-donated canned foods) and spices (difficult to come by at food pantries).

Donation boxes were then placed at the Dill Pickle Food Co-op, Kaila Designs, Inc., Adams and Son Gardens, and the Humboldt Park Fieldhouse, together with flyers detailing our “wish list.” We also set up and shared an Amazon Wish List on social media, allowing supporters to contribute anytime, from anywhere.

Our Holiday Drive received an exciting degree of support – over the course of November and December, community members donated more than 550 pounds of food and household items! Donations included can openers, canned goods, Paleo cookies, spices, condiments, stuffed grape leaves, toothbrushes, toothpaste powder, diapers, detergent, an RC car, paper towels, and more. We’ve been distributing these donations to food pantries within NFPN, who will use those them to help feed and improve the livelihoods of over 100 of our neighbors.

After finalizing our 2020 Strategic Plan, we hope to put together an even more ambitious food and item drive in Spring 2020. Our goal: connect with additional drive partners and ultimately triple the contributions we receive.

Stay tuned!
